Module 1: Valuing Each Child and Family Outcome A: The student will discuss attributes of the diversity of families Outcome B: The student will describe strategies for interacting collaboratively with all children and adults. Outcome C: The student will evaluate techniques for communicating with families about their children’s development. Module 2: Child Growth and Development Outcome A: The student will recognize development as a continuum with identifiable basic milestones. Outcome B: The student will identify developmental needs of infants, toddlers and preschoolers, and school-agers to age eight. Outcome C: The student will describe early brain development. Module 3: Celebrating Child Growth Outcome A: The student will give examples of children developing at their own rate. Outcome B:The student will identify techniques for collecting child development information. Outcome C:The student will describe professional behavior regarding confidentiality of referrals. Module 4: Curriculum and Learning Environments Outcome A The student will describe environments which nurture children and stimulate learning. Outcome B The student will identify indoor and outdoor activities that invite participation of all children. Outcome C The student will plan developmentally appropriate activities for children in a variety of settings. Module 5: Family and Community Partnerships Outcome A The student will recognize that families are the primary educators of their children. Outcome B The student can explain the elements of positive relationships and communication with families. Outcome C The student will identify community resources that support families. Module 6: Healthy Practices: Safety and Wellness Outcome A The student can differentiate between compliance and non-compliance of health and safety regulations. Outcome B The student can summarize their role as a mandated reporter of child abuse and neglect. Outcome C The student will identify a healthy physical environment for children, including procedures for health, safety, and sanitation. Module 7: Healthy Practices: Nutrition and Fitness Outcome A The student will demonstrate healthy practices: hand-washing, diapering, food- handling and meal/snack procedures. Outcome B The student will describe basic daily nutrition, exercise, and sleep needs of children. Outcome C The student will identify signs of and care for basic childhood illnesses and injuries. |
Module 8: Interactions and Guidance
Outcome A The student will identify techniques for building secure relationships, forming the basis for a child’s ability to manage his/her own behavior. Outcome B The student will identify positive responses to children. Outcome C The student will recognize off-track behavior and commit to limit setting that supports self-management. Module 9: Program Planning and Development Outcome A The student will describe staff member’s responsibilities in carrying out the program’s mission statement. Outcome B The student will relate program policies to specific Washington licensing rules and laws. Outcome C The student will identify what, where and how records are kept. Module 10: Professional Practice Outcome A The student will describe the professional code of ethics. Outcome B The student will summarize the fundamentals of professional behavior. Outcome C The student will justify the need for on-going professional development. |
