I would say, SAFETY is the major factor we have to consider in designing environment for infants and toddlers, since they are more vulnerable than children of next age groups.

Some of the special requirements for infants and toddlers include that infants are to be fed on demand and not per a pre made schedule. Also bottles are not to be propped up when feeding and juice is not to be given in a bottle. Parents must give permission for a pacifier to be given to their infant or toddler. Each infant must be provided with a single layer crib and no child may sleep in a car seat. Infants must be put to sleep on their back.

It must have both an indoor and an outdoor environment. Both environments must be safe, and offer a wide variety of age appropriate activities

Infants need many needs met. Their environment should include cribs, padded floor mats, soft babies/stuffed animals, changing table and age appropriate toys. Toddlers need close to the same thing aside from the cribs. They still need safe and soft play areas and toys. Infants and toddlers have many of the same needs.

Some special requirements in an infant care center are that feeding and sleeping needs are based on the individual child. Sleeping quarters must be safe for infants and they must be allowed a safe and clean space to practice motor skills. A toddler room may have some that are beginning potty training and so special requirements apply there as well. The toddler environment needs to be set up in a way that supports their emerging autonomy and minimizes potential disputes. Materials should be placed in a way that fosters the intended open ended uses of the material.

Infants and toddlers have different laws to ensure their safety and high quality care. Infants and toddlers have a lower children to teacher ratio, compared to preschool age. Infants and toddlers require diaper changes, more hands-on assistance, and more verbalization/summarization throughout their everyday care and learning.

They need a safe environment to be able to move freely and keep things that can be a danger to them away. They require more hands on care and more visual watching.

More than anything else, infants and toddlers have special needs for eating and sleeping. Both need designated napping areas or cribs, and need special attention during feeding, especially babies.

Infants and toddlers may need more age-appropriate equipment such as high-chairs, diaper changing stations, cribs, potty chairs, and other equipment. For infants whose mothers choose to breastfeed them, provide a safe, private, and comfortable space for this activity. Overall, just like for any age group, the environment should be nurturing, reflect diversity, and include age-appropriate equipment and toys for the children.

Some special requirements for infants and toddlers in early learning environments are to remove choking hazards and secure furniture to the walls, give young infants tummy time at least three times a day, make sure cribs and other sleeping equipment is up to date and does not have any fluffy blankets, pillows or toys in them, make sure infants go to sleep on their backs to prevent SIDS, provide clean feeding utensils, make sure food/milk is not too hot, and cleanable diapering/toilet areas.

Some special requirments for this age group is the feeding/sleeping schedule. They are not old enough yet to be able to express when they are hungry and or tired. It is good for them to have this schedule do their body gets the rest and nutrition it needs. Also they need safe indoor and outdoor classrooms with enough space and appropriate equipment for them to explore.

The environment of infants and toddlers should be safe and free of any choking hazards and things that could cause injury. The children need safe objects to manipulate with their hands and things to climb and move on. They need a nurturing environment and teachers who will talk to them and hold them when needed. They need special equipment for feeding and changing diapers. The environment should reflect cultural diversity.

Infants need many special requirements. For one their is no set schedule for nap time and feelings.p, both are incredibly important at this stage of life and so limiting them can be detrimental to their well being and personal growth and development. Age appropriate toys, diaper changing tables and areas, and much more.

Infants and toddlers need clean and safe flooring to explore on, access to toys and activities close to the ground like they are, infants need cribs, toddlers need mats or cots and may need pacifiers and other necessities. Overall, infants and toddlers need much more intense hands on care than preschool and pre-k.

Infants should be fed based off of when they are hungry rather than off of a timed schedule. Special care must be given to feeding infants - if they are given a bottle, it should never be propped up, and their pacifiers should never be dipped in anything. Infants should also be given safe areas to sleep - firm and not stacked. They should always be placed on their backs to sleep. A special requirement for toddlers is support in potty training. Child sized toilets should be available for children to use. Caregiver should encourage children and celebrate with them, but not criticize them on the results of their potty training efforts. Diapering areas must be kept clean and sanitized for infants and toddlers.
