There are various factors that affect a child's individual differences in needs:

- Family and community: Their values, beliefs and routine at home can affect their needs
- Environment: Whether they have a safe environment in which all their needs are being met can affect their needs in other parts of their lives
- Prior learning: What they already know and how they've developed so far can also affect their needs
- The various traits of temperament: Various patterns can develop based on these traits. For example, an easy and flexible child will ease into newer activities much faster whereas a shy child will be weary of new things and changes

A variety of factors affect a child's needs. The needs of the child are as unique as the child themselves. Each child has a different temperament, has come from a different family environment, and has different levels of what they have learned. As an educator is important to recognize individual needs.

A child's individual differences in needs is based on their temperament. As child care providers get to know the children in their care, they will be able to predict how the kids will react to different situation. This gives the child care provider the ability to push children out of their comfort zone of learning. Often times children will pick work that they have mastered rather than work that is challenging. Knowing a child's temperament allows the child care provider to push them out of their comfort zone of learning new things. Learning a child's temperament allows providers to meet children on all different levels of education.

All children have the same basic needs such as eating, drinking, toileting, etc. But each child may have child specific needs that are unique to their personality and development. Much like some adults prefer physical attention, while others prefer words of encouragement, or humor, a child may have needs that can only be met with specific human interaction. Some examples of this include a child who may need a little bit of extra tenderness when being dropped off in the mornings, a child who may need a pencil grip when writing, or to have a special tool for making space in between their words, and there are even some children who need the opposite- they may need to be challenged more, or they may want to be left alone when distressed or sad. Children are humans, just like us adults, and have their own preferences.

Children's individual differences in their needs are based on what their temperament and behavior characteristics are. Once you notice their traits or behavioral patterns you can see what type of child they are and what their specific needs will be. If they are always negative and intense maybe they need more sleep or using a DAP to help them meet a specific need. Just like us, each child is different and will have unique needs we will use these practices in order to meet them as best as we can.

Every child had basic needs that need to be met; food, water, sleep, stimulation, etc. These needs are priority for caregivers in order to guarantee that they are prepared to then have their individual needs satisfied. These individual needs are based on temperament and personality; individual needs are something that all children and adults have. Depending on the temperament of a child, whether they be easy going, spirited, or shy, they may have different needs such as low or high levels of social interaction, gross motor movement, sensorial play, or quiet time.

There are multiple things that contribute to the difference in a childs needs. The childs temperament and whether they are shy or outgoing, loud or calm and quiet. Their environment at home. If they are used to spending more time on their own at home because maybe their parents both work and dont spend much time with them at home, maybe they are an only child and has to figure out how to entertain themselves, etc, they most likely wont demand a lot of attention from others. If they are used to being the center of attention at home then they might expect it at daycare as well, from both the other kids and the providers.

Temperament of a child is something that as educators we see makes a huge difference on children's needs. Family, prior learning, environment, and temperament all contribute to differences in learning and therefore a child's needs. Children learn best when they are safe, happy, and well fed so providing these things would be common needs of all children. As far as developmental needs it all depends on the child and can be gauged by a responsive caregiver who observes the child and treats them as individuals, helping them to further build on skills they may or not already have.

I can agree with a lot of what has been posted. I know that there are so many factors that contribute to the individual needs of a child. Every one of them is unique and you must learn them to teach them. Attempting to understand the learning and living environment, the child's behavioral style, learned behaviors, previous education, the family and community support system all play heavily into what a child is going to need day to day.

Every child has different needs within emotional, social, intellectual and physical/health domains. Some needs of food, warmth, safety, toileting are common to all children. They need to be around their family and care-givers to feel comfortable and happy. They should be given enough space at home and day care to play and explore.

Each child's individual difference in needs are what vary for each child's learning process. A child's difference learning can be determined from 1. the child's family/community: this is where the child will first start to learn and develop. 2.Environment: are all of the child's needs being met both in their school and hoe surroundings. 3.Prior learning/development: Children's learning is built off of the previous things they have learned and is their development meeting 'age appropriate standards" (are there red flags) and 4. Temperament: how does the child's temperament affect the way they learn. by looking into each of these we can determine a child's individual difference of need.

Indvidual differences in needs is an important consideration when working with children. Some needs are universal to all children (food, love/affection, security, stimulation, etc). Other needs change either in amount or intensity depending upon the child's temperament. For instance all children might need some skills to process through transitions however, depending upon temperament, some students may need more time, warnings, picture directions, in order to prepare and successfully navigate a transition.
