Schedules and daily routines provide a sense of stability and security to children through consistency. Young children are not able to tell time however they quickly can learn the sequence of events through the day especially when the teacher posts a pictorial schedule in the room at the child's level. Schedules and daily routines also allow a clear vision for teachers and substitute teachers to follow in order to maintain a safe and calm environment. I believe even parents benefit from having a schedule posted in their child's classroom so that they are aware of the happenings of the day.

I agree. While it is not necessary, it sure makes life a lot easier and more predictable for the little ones.

Yes, it is necessary to have a daily schedule and routine for children. Since children cannot tell time, they sense what happens next through consistency. This gives them a sense of trust in the classroom, comfort and self-reliance. Without structure, a classroom becomes chaotic. Of course, daily schedules and routines should be subjected to change based on individual needs and behaviors, but should be followed through as much as possible.

Yes, because children will understand the things that need to be done and consistency in a child's life is good for them, but sometimes it may not always go as planed.

i think it is good to have a structured plan of the day because you are being consistent with your routine of outside time, lunch time and nap time. Routine is good for them to learn things like circle time, washing hands, clean up, and chores.

Yes, it is very important. It allows them to predict what's coming and learn from doing. Children need to feel safe and secure and they will do so through consistency and predictability. In fact, it is through routine that children learn autonomy and develop a good sense of self and ability to manage and problem solve.

It is incredibly necessary that children have a daily schedule and routine. Without one their day feels out of control, unpredictable, and anxiety producing. They day proceeding along the same general schedule with limited variation allows them to feel safe, anticipate what is next, feel a sense of agency and buy in to the activities. It is our job at educators to help them feel that school is a predictable and safe place to be.

I think that routines and schedules are important for children. They help reinforce a sense of time for children that cannot tell time and have been shown to give children a sense of consistency and self-worth. In my experience, schedules and routines are very helpful when children feel homesick or sad. For example, if a child asks when their mom will come to pick them up, I can simply say "well, your mommy comes to pick you up at around 4:30. So, we will have nap time, 2:30 snack, some play time, and then at 4:30 snack mommy will come to pick you up! When children have routines to refer to, they are able to gage when certain events of the day will happen, including pick-up time, which I have noticed provides them with a sense of security and confidence.

Yes, I think routines are necessary for children. I think they should be flexible and subject to change based on weather, number of children, interests in certain activities, or other factors. But having a schedule of some kind is definitely important for the children as well as the caretakers, because it provides a sense of security in knowing what happens next.

It is very necessary for children to have a routine it helps them stay on a normal schedule and not all kids can tell time so it make it so they know what time it is during the day. It also gives kids discipline to be on a schedule.

Is it necessary to have a daily schedule and routine for children? While it is not "Necessary" it is a good idea that can help foster children development. A schedule can:
* Ensure a balance of activities throughout the children's day.
* Young children can tell time of day for sequence of activities and routines set in place by caregivers
* Routines and daily rituals provide a sense of security
* Children can predict what happens next
* Appropriate routines meet the developmental needs and abilities of the children
* Routines help children gain a sense of their own identity and self-worth
* Balance of large group, small group, individual, child-initiated and staff-initiated activities is very important.
* Younger children, most activities should be “Child-Initiated” in individual or small groups
* Children under age 6 should not spend large amount of time in “staff-initiated, large group activities.

Routines and schedules are necessary because they help give younger children a sense of time, since they are unable to tell time. As well as gives them a sense of organizing their lives. Once they get in the jest of their routines they will know what happens during the day however will not know the specifics to game time (they wont know what game will be played) but they will know after lunch they need to settle down for game time and after game time they will know that nap time is next

Yes it is necessary to have established routines during the day. This gives the children a sense of comfort and security as they know what to expect. They are no able to tell time so routines give them a sense of before and after. The consistency of routines and doing the same things also helps them learn.

It is so important for kids to have schedules. If they are very young, they cannot tell time, and knowing the routine helps them stay calm and unfrazzled during the day. Keeping on a routine gives the kids a sense of regularity that they wouldn't have if their schedule was on the fly all day every day.

Schedules and routines are very important for young children. Even infants learn the routine of feeding, changing, sleeping and awake time. Although children can't read clocks or fully understand the concept of time yet, they learn that things happen in an order, and not randomly. Knowing that mom and dad come back after afternoon outside time can be very reassuring, even though they might be upset at drop off. When routines are kept consistent, children feel safe and secure to explore without worrying about when they will eat again or such. If changes are to be made to the routine, they need plenty of warning so the transition can go smoothly as possible without being a shock.

It is absolutely essential to have a daily schedule and routine for children. This will give them structure and make them feel confident, competent, and at ease knowing what is going to happen throughout the day. Not having a routine may be unsettling for a child because he or she will not know what is coming next, which may cause him or her to develop anxiety and feel confused.
