This appears to be advanced development and the child is doing great. I would utilize facial expressions to demonstrate excitement and words of encouragement as much as possible. New ways to demonstrate additional vocabulary into this child's life would be an added bonus.

This child is ahead of the developmental continuum. Children at this age are recognizing their first names and the sound each letter makes . At 3 years reading is more in picture books memorizing what the book is about and having the book read to them. I would praise the child and start asking him about the sounds of the letters in the sight words.

The child is above average on the development scale. Children at the age of four aren't expected to be able to read sight words. Children who fall under the "normal" range for development are able to jump in place, can retell their favorite story, love playing pretend.

At three years of age, it is above average to already know these words. Although great, it is critical that the child is being supported and encouraged to learn more to sustain this learning. For instance, reading a book over and over to a child, is helpful but may be tricky on whether or not the child is memorizing or learning. It leads me to think that is would be critical to check with whether the child recognizes the words or has just memorized them.

In this scenario, the child is ahead of typical child development. There are very very few children that can read even a few words at the age of three. Thus, it would be important to ensure that the child has work that is harder than his peers so that he keeps developing and doesn't just get put in the flow of the rest of the children. Encouraging him to learn more words and read easy books that has simple words he knows and then introducing new words every so often would help this child to continue his developing.

Letter recognition at three to four years of age is expected for most children, so a child recognizing and reading these letters in succession is very impressive. I personally would first show the child other words using the same letters to assure memorization is not taking place, as that can slow literary development. If it is not and the child is truly reading these words, I would find similar reading material that piques the childs interest and challenges them. I would also recommend the childs parents do the same and encourage their child.

Three year olds are typically able to recognize their name by its shape, but most are just beginning to connect letters with their sounds and cannot sight read. Because this child is developing quickly in this area, I would make sure to present more challenging language works to them. I would be careful not to put extra pressure on this child to perform just because they are showing aptitude, and let their learning be self-driven. Most young children have trouble sustaining a long work cycle, so I might suggest works that involve movement, such as reading words like "Pat," "Run," and "Hop," and acting them out. I would also encourage that child to work with and help friends their age, putting their knowledge to the test while building excitement about reading in the classroom.
