Child Developmental Milestones
Children grow and develop at different rates. While their pathways through childhood differ, most pass a set of predictable milestones along the way.

A developmental milestone is an ability that is achieved by most children by a certain age. Developmental milestones can involve physical, social, emotional, cognitive and communication skills such as walking, sharing with others, expressing emotions, recognizing familiar sounds and talking.

A continuum is a continuous sequence or progression. Milestones are physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and communication skills. Some are crawling, walking, running, sharing with others, expressing emotions, recognizing familiar sounds, and talking. Milestones are different for each age range. There is a normal range in which a child may reach each milestone but each child is different. Some make skip stages or progress faster than others.
